HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000, 9000, and 20000 Storage disk drive models that have disk drives that start with "ARFA" or "ARFX" may use drives that start with "KPM7" or "ARHN" as alternative spare parts.
The use of "ARFA" or "ARFX" disk drives used in HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage disk systems may be confirmed by performing the following steps:
Identify all HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000, 9000, and 20000 arrays with one or more ARFA or ARFX drives installed by using the HPE 3PAR StoreServ Management Console (SSMC) or by running the following HPE 3PAR CLI command:

For each array with one or more drives installed, refer to Table 2 for a list of required actions based on the current HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS version and patch level of the array.
If needed, based on Table 2, plan and schedule the installation of the appropriate patch and/or the HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS update.
IMPORTANT
: If the array is not at the necessary OS/patch level shown to accept the alternate replacement (refer to Table 2), the patch must be installed
prior to the drive replacement
; otherwise, this can lead to a delay in replacing a failed drive on the array and potentially, if multiple drives fail, to data unavailability. If the required patch is already staged on the array, the HPE 3PAR StoreServ engineer can install the patch prior to replacing the drive, reducing the overall delay.
NOTE
: If the array requires more than a patch (such as an MU or OS update), a plan should be in place to update the array to the appropriate HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS version and patch level prior to using drives that start with "KPM7" or "ARHN" as alternative spare parts for drives that start with "ARFA" or "ARFX".
NOTE
: With a failed drive, an MU or full OS update of the HPE 3PAR StoreServ array can only proceed in an offline manner.
