Info
From BMC WebUI, DNS configuration has the “Automatic” and “Manual” at the Host Name
Setting.
When selecting Automatic and clicking “Save,” Host Name receives the FW default
hostname. - ex: AMIB47AF1B46481 (“AMI + BMC MAC Address”)
Events that trigger the issue:
Step 1 – Log into BMC WebUI DNS Configuration, select “Manual,” change the Host Name
to the different one, and click “Save.”
Step 2 - Re-log into BMC WebUI, select “Automatic” and click “Save.”
Step 3 - Re-login BMC WebUI, check the BMC Host Name.
Expected Results: See the Host Name as “BMC + Motherboard Serial Number”
Actual results: The Host Name is “AMI + BMC MAC Address”
The firmware default hostname is not set as expected.
It is HPE-specific.
Scope
HPE Cray XD670
BMC firmware v1.12
Resolution
No functional impact. When using BMC firmware prior to v1.14, do not select
“Automatic” if you do not want to reset Hostname to the default name.
This is planned to be fixed in BIOS firmware v1.14. Will update when BIOS v1.14 is
released.
