For any HPE 6125XLG Ethernet Blade Switches or HPE 6127XLG Blade Switches, the switch logs may report notifications similar to the following: "IFNET/4/IF_BUFFER_BURST_OCCURRENCE: An egress micro-burst occurred on queue 2 of Ten-GigabitEthernet2/0/17 IFNET/4/IF_BUFFER_BURST_OCCURRENCE: An egress micro-burst occurred on queue 2 of Ten-GigabitEthernet2/0/19" Micro-bursts are short spikes in network traffic, with a typical duration of 1 to 100 milliseconds. The following are typical scenarios where micro-bursts may occur: Incoming traffic fluctuation may experience a short spike. The total bandwidth of ingress ports exceeds the total bandwidth of egress ports. TCP is configured with the slow start and congestion avoidance mechanisms to send data packets as soon as possible. Micro-bursts may affect network traffic if exist concurrently with performance issues such as drop packets.
In the scenario described above, the following switches running any firmware version: HPE 6125XLG Ethernet Blade Switch HPE 6125XLG Ethernet Blade Switch for Integrity Server HPE 6127XLG Blade Switch
To avoid this issue, monitor/analyze the ports reporting the micro-bursts (in millisecond intervals) in order to determine the traffic source. Once the traffic source has been identified, appropriate corrective actions may be performed. Note: Network traffic issues greatly vary depending on environment to environment. The purpose of this advisory is to provide a micro-burst overview and resolution guidelines.
