In some cases, users may experience difficulty powering on the XD670 node. When the Redfish graceful BMC poweroff command is transmitted with IPMItool, system status indicates a successful poweroff. When a subsequent poweron command is transmitted, the system poweron process does not complete causing a deadlock or hang during firmware startup/bootstrap. (No customer setting lost; no data corruption experienced.) Image: Example error message (power on process does not complete) Events that trigger the issue are as follows: Redfish graceful BMC poweroff, poweron commands transmitted with IPMItool. Check power status to check if power is on. Power off command: ipmitool -I lanplus -U $username -P $password -H $BMC_IP power off Power on command: ipmitool -I lanplus -U $username -P $password -H $BMC_IP power on Check power status command: ipmitool -I lanplus -U $username -P $password -H $BMC_IP power status Please replace $username, $password and $BMC_IP according to the system setting. Testing team is still investigating but there is a solution to reset system power remotely. It is HPE-specific.
HPE Cray XD670
Workaround: Please replace $username, $password and $BMC_IP according to the system setting. 1.Try to give the BMC ‘mc reset cold’ - ex: ipmitool -I lanplus -U $username -P $password -H $BMC_IP mc reset cold 2. Try to give the BMC factory default - ex: ipmitool -I lanplus -U $username -P $password -H $BMC_IP raw 0x32 0x66 3. If the above options are not helping, give the physical AC-cycle. Testing team is still investigating; will update as soon as the resolution is found.
