On any HPE ProLiant Gen10 / Gen10 Plus platform with "HPE Gen10 Server Platform Services (SPS) version 04.01.04.423" or with "HPE Gen10 Server Platform Services (SPS) version 04.04.04.053 (or later)", and configured with any of the HPE Broadcom-based or HPE Mellanox-based network adapters listed in the Scope section below; the firmware update for the network adapter will fail if the update is performed via the "Offline Firmware Update" method. This condition occurs due to an issue with the "HPE Gen10 Server Platform Services (SPS) version 04.01.04.423", and with the "HPE Gen10 Server Platform Services (SPS) version 04.04.04.053 (or later)" that results in a missing PCI-E Endpoint Identifier (EID) for the for network adapter. Important information: Server Platform Services (SPS) Firmware is aligned with the Intel Product Updates; therefore, only HPE ProLiant Gen10 / Gen10 Plus platforms with Intel processors are affected by this issue.

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps: Download and install the following component: For HPE Gen10 platforms ROM Flash Firmware Package - Server Platform Services (SPS) Firmware for HPE Gen10 Servers Version 04.01.04.505 (or later) For HPE Gen10 Plus platforms ROM Flash Firmware Package - Server Platform Services (SPS) Firmware for HPE Gen10 Plus Servers Version 04.04.04.300 (or later) Perform an AC power-cycle (Unplug Power Supply). Perform the offline installation of the firmware using the following component: For Broadcom-based network adapters: Broadcom Firmware Package for BCM5741x adapters Version 223.1.96.0 (or later) For Mellanox-based network adapters: Mellanox Firmware Package (FWPKG) - Mellanox MCX631432AS-ADAI Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 OCP3 Adapter for HPE Version 26.39.1002 Workaround for Broadcom-based network adapters Perform the firmware update via the "Online Firmware Update" method by using any of the following firmware components: HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMware Version 5.16.0 (or later) HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows Server x64 Editions Version 5.3.2.0 (or later) HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux x86_64 Version 1.14.0 (or later) Note: Follow the installation instructions listed under the "Installation Instructions" tab.
