When updating the firmware for any of the HPE network adapters listed in the Scope section below to version 20.23.41; attempting any downgrade action to a prior version will cause the firmware to stop functioning and the network adapter will stop functioning. The firmware version 20.23.41 components implicated in this condition are the following: HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux x86_64 Version 2.31.0 HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMware Version 1.32.0 HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows Server x64 Editions Version 5.3.2.0 This issue occurs due to a product re-design in the code which does not allow the network adapters to get back to prior firmware versions.
Any HPE platform configured with an HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port BASE-T BCM5720 Adapter (615732-B21).
HPE recommends avoiding downgrading and keeping version 20.23.41 as the lowest version for environments where the downgrade has not been performed. Note: If the downgrade has already been performed, log a support case to verify and request a replacement of the network adapter using the HPE Spare Part Number 616012-001.
