Document Version Release Date Details 2 November 14, 2022 Updated the Resolution with upgrade information for OneView 7.xx versions. 1 September 29, 2022 Original Document Release After updating HPE OneView for Synergy to version 6.60, a server using a Server Profile Template (SPT) may be unable to deploy in an environment containing an HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module. This is likely to occur if both the local server drives and the D3940 drives are the same when attached to an HPE Smart Array P416ie-m Controller's backplane. The possible drive types are SAS SSD, SAS HDD, SATA SSD, or SATA HDD. Capacity does not matter. To encounter this issue, all drives must be attached to the same P416ie-m mezzanine controller, with the local drives in a premium backplane. If the local drives (front of server) are attached to a separate front embedded RAID-on-Chip (RoC), for instance with the HPE Smart Array E208ic SR Gen10 Controller, Smart Array S100i SR Gen10, etc., the issue does not occur. When this occurs, an alert message similar to the following will display: AlertResourceV3 alerts Failed to apply the local storage configuration.\nMezz 1 storage controller issue(s):\n- Cannot add data drive xx:x:xx to logical drive "logical array name" because it is already being used by another logical drive or contains an invalid configuration. Resolution: "Delete any existing configuration on the physical drive(s) using the Smart Storage Administrator tool or choose the option to re-initialize the controller configuration. Then retry the operation. There is no existing configuration as these drives have already been initialized .
HPE OneView for Synergy versions 6.60.0, 6.60.01, 7.10.x or 7.20.x in an environment with HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module configured with local drives that are the same drive type. All local drives must be attached to the same HPE Smart Array P416ie-m Controller, with the drives in a premium backplane. The possible drive types are SAS SDD, SAS HDD, SATA SSD, or SATA HDD. Capacity does not matter.
This issue is corrected by upgrading to HPE OneView 6.60.02 from any previous version. If OneView is running version 7.xx, upgrade to OneView 8.00 (or later). As a workaround, use one of the following actions: To create a profile manually, perform the following steps: Manually create the profile, including all local drive settings, but exclude any D3940 drive configuration. This will create the boot drive RAID set. Edit the profile, add the D3940 drive configuration and Save. This will add the D3940 configuration and avoid any conflict with the front drives. OR To create a profile using templates, perform the following steps: Copy the full desired template to create a preliminary template. Edit the preliminary template and remove any D3940 drive configuration. Create the server profile using the preliminary template and apply to the server. Edit the profile and change the template from preliminary to the full desired template. The server profile is now inconsistent with the template. Edit the profile and add the D3940 drive configuration (matching what is in the full template) and Save. After the applying the profile, the server profile will be consistent with the full desired template.
