It was observed after hundreds of iterations of an AC power cycle test, Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) commands stopped working to the HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5).The continuous AC power-cycle may cause the NVRAM content of the IPMI configuration to enter a transient state and lose integrity when the power is removed abruptly. When iLO 5 power is restored, the IPMI configuration file is checked and is re-initialized to default values as a self-recovery operation.Note: For security, the factory default setting for the IPMI-Over-Lan is always disabled. This has been observed with iLO 5 firmware v2.63. This has not been observed with iLO 5 firmware later than v2.63.
Any HPE system with iLO 5 firmware v2.63.
This issue is resolved in HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) v2.72 (or later).Workaround:If this has occurred, go to the Network section on the Access Settings page and re-enable IPMI access. In addition, use the iLO 5 Backup & Restore functionality for the iLO 5 configuration settings to recover from this issue.Any of the options below are available for an iLO 5 Backup & Restore:Using iLO 5 web interface: click the navigation tree and then click Backup & Restore.Using iLO Redfish API as follows:GET /redfish/v1/managers/1/backuprestoreserviceGET the backup file based upon the "BackupFileLocation" URIThe GET operation to the BackupFileLocation URI returns HTTP 200 with Content Type: application/octet-stream. This is the binary image of the backup file. For additional details on the procedure and pre-requisites, refer to the “iLO backup and restore” section of theiLO 5 User Guide.A future iLO 5 firmware version is targeted to automatically back up settings and restore on initialization when a change is detected.
