HPE Gen10 Plus server with in-chassis RAID controllers and storage supports the PM6 SAS4 Solid-State Drives (SSD) in SR932i-p and SR416-tri-mode controllers. For PM6 SAS4 SSD cards, the power mode setting defaults to the 11W setting becoming its maximum power limit. However, if this operating speed for the SAS4 PM6 SSD is not reaching its targeted performance, the power mode setting can be changed to 18W. Note : For the SAS3 configuration, there is a thermal risk if the 18W power mode is changed. HPE does not recommend changing the default for SAS3 configurations.
Any HPE Gen10 Plus server with in-chassis RAID controllers and storage that support the PM6 SAS4 SSD card in the SR932i-p and SR416-tri-mode controllers, HPE SR932i-p x32 Lanes 8GB Wide Cache NVMe/SAS 24G PCIe4 x16 Gen10 Plus Controller and HPE SR416i-a x16 Lanes 4GB Cache NVMe/SAS 24G Gen10 Plus Controller. To achieve SAS4 performance and increase the power limit to 18W for the PM6 SAS4 24G SSD, upgrade to HPD2 firmware: Linux (x64): https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/softwaredetails?language=en_US&softwareId=MTX_00286f418370413382879f018b VMware: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/swd/detail?swItemId=MTX_391ac258158d4512a1958ea7d5 Windows (x64): https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/swd/detail?swItemId=MTX_c13c80e7737249bda9a39dceb0 If unable to upgrade at this time, access the SG3 util tool scripts for Linux, Windows and VMware. The SG3 util is available for download as an open source utility, or if necessary, contact HPE Support and reference document ID a00123265en_us. Click on the following URL to locate the HPE Customer Support phone number in your country: TECHNICAL SUPPORT PHONE NUMBERS Setup the controller to be the HBA mode first. SG3 Util for Linux Version The sg3_utils_package can be downloaded from a repository of Linux distributions. Then the util can be installed via the package manager on that distribution. For the Linux SG3 Util, perform the following steps: After downloading the sg3_utils package, verify that the drive path of the target is "dev/sg2". Set the power mode to 18W using this command: #sg_raw --send=0x18 --infile=HP-MP1A01-18W.bin /dev/sg2 55 11 00 00 00 00 0000 18 00 Verify the current power mode by using the following command: # sg_modes /dev/sg2 -p 0x1A,0x01 00 da 01 00 0c 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0000 00 ===== (PC=0 : 18W; PC=1 : 11W) If necessary, set PM6 back to 11W mode using this command: #sg_raw --send=0x18 --infile=HP-MP1A01-11W.bin /dev/sg2 55 11 00 00 00 00 0000 18 00 SG3 Util for Windows Versions Note: The SG3 Util is available for download as open source utility or contact HPE Support as described above. After downloading the Windows SG3 utility, check the drive path to see if the target is "# sg3_scan". Reset the power mode by changing the PCID from 1 (11W) to 0 (18W). Use the following: # ./sg_wr_mode -p 0x1A,1 -s -c da,01,00,0c,00,00,00,00 -m 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,ff drive path Verify the current power mode by using the following: # ./sg_modes -p=0x1A,1 drive path >> page_code : 0x1a, subpage_code : 0x1, page_control : current 00 da 01 00 0C 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 -->(PC=0 : 18W; PC=1 : 11W) SG3 Util for VMware Versions Note: SG3 Util is available from VMware as part of current VMware installation packages. Use the SG3 for VMware version. Check the path of the drive on VMware ESXi: # esxcli storage core device list CMD Verify the changed PCID from 1 (11W) to 0 (18W): # ./sg_wr_mode --p=0x1A,1 -save -c da,01,00,0c,00,00,00,00 -m 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,ff drive path Verify the current power mode: Check the Modified PCID: # ./sg_modes -p=0x1A,1 drive path >> page_code : 0x1a, subpage_code : 0x1, page_control : current 00 da 01 00 0C 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 -->(PC=0 : 18W; PC=1 : 11W) RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Support Alerts.Sign up for Support Alerts at the following URL: HPE Email Preference Center NAVIGATION TIP: For hints on navigating HPE.com to locate the latest drivers, patches and other support software downloads, refer to the Navigation Tips document.
