On any HPE platform running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3, and configured with any of the HPE Broadcom-based network adapters listed in the Scope section below; the Inbox driver may be loaded after a system reboot, instead of the Out-of-Box (OOB)driver. When this issue occurs and the Linux Operating System is booted via iSCSI, the following conditions may be experienced: The Out-of-Box (OOB) driver is installed under the following location: /lib/modules/xxx/updates/<OOB module name> Despite of the information of the Out-of-Box (OOB) can be read from the Operating System and it can be confirmed that the Out-of-Box (OOB) driver is installed, by performing the command "modinfo <OOB module name>", the driver loaded is the Inbox driver. By performing the command "ethtool -i <NX1 interface>", it can be confirmed that the driver loaded is the Inbox driver. For Example : In the following example, once SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 is booted via ROM-based iSCSI and the Out-of-Box (OOB) driver v3.139b is installed, the Inbox driver v3.137 of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 is still loaded automatically after a system reboot. To confirm this example condition, check the following results and the sample image: The Out-of-Box (OOB) driver is installed under: /lib/modules/xxx/updates/tg3. The confirmation of the installation of the Out-of-Box (OOB) driver can be confirmed by performing the following command: "modinfo tg3" The information that confirms that the Inbox driver v3.137 is the driver loaded can be verified by performing the command: "ethtool -i eth1"
Any HPE platform running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3, and configured with any of the following HPE Broadcom-based network adapters: HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 330i Adapter (LOM) HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 332i Adapter (LOM) HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i Adapter (LOM) HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port BASE-T BCM5719 Adapter (647594-B21) HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port FLR-T BCM5719 Adapter (629135-B22) HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port BASE-T BCM5720 Adapter (615732-B21) Note: The network adapter(s) in this document are affected by a naming standard change for HPE products to help customers quickly and easily identify the specific vendor and model while configuring HPE platforms. Perform the following steps to load the OOB driver instead of the inbox driver. Boot into SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 via iSCSI LUN. Install the Out-of-Box (OOB) driver. Reboot the system. Verify if the inbox driver is still loaded. Run the following commands to sync up the Out-of-Box (OOB) driver with the Linux Operating System via iSCSI LUN: # depmod -a # dracut -f --add-drivers "<OOB module name>" Note: Using the example of the Description section, the command to be performed is: dracut -f --add-drivers "tg3" Reboot the system. This advisory will be updated when a future OOB driver release resolves this issue.
