When updating to VMware ESXi 7.0 update 2 (or later), the ESXi hosts may no longer have access to the MSA volumes. ESXi 7.0 update 2 may report that the MSA volumes do not support vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI).
From the ESXi host:
#esxcli storage core device VAAI status get

Check which multipath plugin is assigned to the MSA volumes:

Scope
The following product families are affected by this issue:
HPE MSA 1050 SAN Storage
HPE MSA 1060 Storage
HPE MSA 2050 SAN Storage
HPE MSA 2052 SAN Storage
HPE MSA 2060 Storage
HPE MSA 2062 Storage
Resolution
VMware intends to resolve this issue in the HPP. In the meantime, use the following workaround.
#esxcli storage core claimrule add -r 49 -t vendor -V HPE -M MSA 2060 SAS -P NMP --force-reserved
#esxcli storage core claimrule load
#esxcli storage core claimrule list
Reboot the host.
Check the status if the claim for multipath is NMP once the host is rebooted.
#esxcli storage core device list
Verify the multipath plugin is set to NMP for each MSA volume.
#esxcli storage vmfs lockmode
list
NOTE: MSA volumes should report as ATS only.
#esxcli storage core device vaai status
get
