Info
On an HPE ProLiant XL225n Gen10 Plus server, the APM command line utility should NOT be used to "set power off" without powering down to standby power first (amber power LEDs) if the system is running CPLD 0x36. When this occurs, there will be a power fault shown in the Integrated Management Log (IML).
IMPORTANT:
Systems running chassis firmware 1.6.9 or later and system CPLD version 0x34 DO NOT need to take these precautions.
Scope
Any HPE ProLiant XL225N Gen10 plus servers with HPE Apollo Power Rack Managers in the scenario detailed above.
Resolution
To safely power off the nodes with APM command line utilities, shut down the servers first, then apply the "set power off" command.
A future system CPLD update will allow this functionality to be restored, allowing the system to be powered down through APM without powering down the server first. This advisory will be updated when the CPLD becomes available.
If this issue has already occurred, contact HPE to replace the System Board and processor. The Integrated Management Log (IML) will indicate which processor is impacted.
