Document Version Release Date Details 2 August 5, 2021 Added information to the Resolution; iLO 5 Firmware v2.35 is available if the communication issue is seen frequently 1 February 10, 2021 Original document release In some instances, it is possible that during normal reboots or normal system workloads, the Apollo chassis controller will be displayed as unresponsive in the Integrated Management Log (IML). This could be a benign message, such as the fan speed reporting as abnormal, or there is a possibility that this unresponsiveness is due to actual cooling problems within the system. If there are actual cooling issues, the following messages will also be seen in the IML: Caution,252,142891,0x0002,Machine Environment,0x0013,Cooling,01/09/2021 20:06:22,31: System Overheating (Temperature Sensor 26, Location I/O Board, Temperature 102) ACTION:Check fans, processor heat sink and air baffles installation. Any HPE Apollo 2000 Gen10 Plus with an HPE ProLiant XL225n server node.
To determine the actual fan speed, check the iLO web GUI(when the system remains at high fan speed when system idle is not as expected) or if there are overheating messages such as in the example shown in the Description section. To successfully refresh communication, reset iLO. iLO 5 Firmware v2.35 is available if the communication issue is seen frequently. It forces the Chassis Controller to service the iLO I2C request to clear the command queue to prevent a false communication lock between iLO and the Chassis Controller. IMPORTANT NOTE: iLO firmware v2.40 will NOT contain the fix, so after flashing to v2.35, DO NOT upgrade again until v2.42 becomes available. Linux: iLO fw 2.35-Linux Windows: iLO fw 2.35-Windows This advisory will be updated when additional solutions become available.
