Document Version Release Date Details 2 06-14-2021 The Resolution section has been updated with the System ROM versions containing the solution. 1 10-22-2020 Original document release. For HPE Gen10/Gen10 Plus platforms, if the HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 Controller is running firmware version 3.00 and is connected to a SATA drive, the one-button secure erase operation may fail and report the following error: "One-button secure erase completed. User data erase status: Completed with Error." Note: This issue only occurs if the HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 Controller is running firmware version 3.00, and will occur regardless of the RAID configuration of the SATA drives. The one-button secure erase operation will complete successfully on any SAS drives.
In the above scenario, any HPE Gen10/Gen10 Plus platforms configured with any of the following controllers: HPE Smart Array E208e-p SR Gen10 (8 External Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller (804398-B21) HPE Smart Array E208i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller (804326-B21) HPE Smart Array E208i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS Modular LH Controller (869079-B21) HPE Smart Array E208i-c SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller (823852-B21) HPE Smart Array E208i-p SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller (804394-B21) HPE Smart Array P204i-b SR Gen10 (4 Internal Lanes/1GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller (804367-B21) HPE Smart Array P204i-c SR Gen10 (4 Internal Lanes/1GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller (804424-B21) HPE Smart Array P408e-p SR Gen10 (8 External Lanes/4GB Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller (804405-B21) HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller (804331-B21) HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular LH Controller (869081-B21) HPE Smart Array P408i-c SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller (823856-B21) HPE Smart Array P408i-p SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller (830824-B21) HPE Smart Array P408e-m SR Gen10 (8 External Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Mezzanine Controller (804381-B21) HPE Smart Array P416ie-m SR Gen10 (8 Int 8 Ext Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Mezzanine Controller (804428-B21) HPE Smart Array P816i-a SR Gen10 (16 Int Lanes/4GB Cache/SmartCache) 12G SAS Modular LH Controller (869083-B21) HPE Smart Array P816i-a SR Gen10 (16 Internal Lanes/4GB Cache/SmartCache) 12G SAS Modular Controller (804338-B21) HPE Smart Array P408i-sb SR Gen10 Controller, embedded in the HPE D2500sb Storage Blade
This issue has been resolved in the following versions: HPE Gen10 AMD platforms System ROM version 2.44 (or later). HPE Gen10 Intel E5 platforms System ROM version 2.42 (or later). HPE Gen10 Plus AMD platforms System ROM version 2.40 (or later). HPE Gen10 Intel E3 platforms System ROM version 2.20 (or later). To download the above mentioned System ROM versions, perform the following steps: 1. Click on the below link. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Center 2. Type a platform name (for example, "DL385 Gen10 Plus") in the text search field and wait for a list of Suggested Products to display. From the Suggested Products list displayed, identify and select the desired platform. 3. The page should refresh to display the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" tab and the components that support the selected product. From the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" expandable filter menus on the left side of the page: i. Select the Software Type "BIOS". ii. Select the Software Sub Type "System ROM". iii. If further filtering is needed, select the specific Operating System from the Operating Environment. 4. Locate and select the corresponding System ROM version. Note: To ensure the latest version has been selected, click the Revision History tab to determine if a newer version is available. For additional information, review the Release Notes tab. 5. Click Download. If this issue has occurred, perform the following workaround: Separately sanitize the system and the SATA drives connected to the Smart Array Controller: 1. Disable the Smart Array controller, and then power off the system. 2. Perform the one-button secure erase via Intelligent Provisioning, iLO, or Restful interface to sanitize the entire system. Some temporary IML "OBSE of drive at Port X Box X Bay X (SN: xx) has failed" entries will be logged during the OBSE process. However, the operation and functionality of one-button secure erase will not be affected and the IML events can be safely ignored. 3. Ensure the Smart Array controller is enabled. 4. Once the above steps have been completed, perform either of the following: i. Use the embedded SSA utility to perform the sanitize operation for both the controller and the drives. Additional information can be found in page 52 (Sanitize erase methods) of the HPE Smart Storage Administrator User Guide OR ii. Remove all logical drives, clear disk drives configuration metadata, and sanitize the disk drives, as described at the following link: Storage management RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Support Alerts.
