An attempt to update the firmware on a NIC from a OneView server profile or Systems Update Manager (SUM) may fail if the NIC driver is disabled in the operating system. In OneView, when using the "Firmware and OS Drivers using Smart Update Tools" option from the server profile, the profile apply task may show as completed but the NIC firmware will not actually get updated and the following alert will be displayed after the profile is applied: "One or more firmware components are inconsistent with the specified firmware baseline. Resolution Power cycle the server and wait for the power on self test (POST) to complete. If the problem persists, re-apply the server profile to update the firmware again." In SUM, when targeting the server via Integrated Lights-Out (iLO), the NIC firmware update attempt will be blocked due to a failed driver dependency. The screenshot below shows a red dot indicating the NIC firmware cannot be installed:
Either of the following software versions: OneView when updating Gen10 NIC firmware using a Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) built with SUM versions earlier than 8.5.6 SUM versions earlier than 8.5.6 targeting a Gen10 server via iLO to perform NIC firmware updates
This issue is fixed with SUM version 8.5.6 (or later). In SUM version 8.5.6, the NIC firmware will be updated using the UEFI firmware update process and in turn it does not require an operating system NIC driver as a prerequisite. A custom SPP can be created from an existing SPP using SUM 8.5.6 or later as the SUM source. To download the SUM version 8.5.6 (or later), perform the following steps: 1.Click the following link: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Center 2.Enter a product name (e.g., " Smart Update Manager") in the text search field and wait for a list of Suggested Products to display.
