Info
On an HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module, drives may temporarily show an unknown status when a Logical JBOD or Logical Volume is deleted, and the Logical JBOD or Logical Volume was created with the "Erase on delete" option.
While the sanitize erase is in progress, the HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module periodically polls the drives and reports the sense codes back to HPE OneView.
On some Synergy D3940 Storage Module drives, the Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module incorrectly interprets the sense code returned from the drive "test unit ready" command. As a result, HPE OneView will report an "Unknown" drive status.
Scope
Any HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module with HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module version 1.5.105.0 (or earlier), in the scenario described above.
Resolution
This issue has been resolved in HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module firmware version 1.5.203.0 (or later). This firmware is included in the
HPE Synergy Custom SPP 2020.05.01
.
As a workaround, wait several hours and the "Unknown" drive status will clear on its own.
