When any firmware component that needs an update is configured to use Smart Update Tools (SUT) with HPE OneView 5.00.02 (or earlier), the firmware update will fail with the following error: "The firmware update operation failed" This occurs when any firmware component that needs an update has a dependency on a driver component present in the same Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP). This scenario requires OneView to install the driver component first, and then retry the firmware update.
Any HPE Platform with HPE OneView Version 5.00.02 (or earlier).
This driver dependency issue is resolved in HPE OneView 5.20 or later, and the Smart Update Manager (SUM) 8.5.6 or later . If performing the upgrade from OneView 4.20.x (or earlier) to version 5.20 is not a feasible option, then, as a workaround, edit and reapply the server profile by following these steps: 1. Go to the Server Profile page of the failed profile. 2. Under the Actions menu, select the edit option. 3. Confirm to re-apply the profile. Alternatively, the firmware baseline can be recreated using SUM version 8.5.6 or later. Detailed steps for Creating a custom baseline and ISO can be found on page 36 of the following document: Smart Update Manager 8.5.6 User Guide Once the above step has been completed, perform the following steps: 1. Add the firmware baseline (bootable ISO), created in the SUM custom baseline process into OneView, by navigating to Appliance/Firmware Bundles and then select Add Firmware Bundle. 2. In OneView, go to the Server Hardware page. 3. Go to the Server Profile page of the failed profile. 4. Under the Actions menu, select the edit option. 5. Select the new firmware baseline in the Firmware baseline dropdown menu. 6. Click OK to save changes and exit the Edit menu. Note: When creating the new custom baseline, select the Make Bootable ISO file option. If this option is not selected, the ISO image will not work correctly with OneView.
