Info
When Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Snooping is enabled on a Synergy Virtual Connect Logical Interconnect, IGMP queries from a multicast router will fail to be forwarded to Synergy compute modules in the affected Logical Enclosure (LE).
Since the IGMP queries never reach the compute modules, the Synergy compute modules will stop sending IGMP membership reports to the multicast router. Once the router stops receiving membership reports, the router will stop forwarding all multicast traffic to the Synergy LE. The Synergy compute modules will stop receiving any multicast traffic.
Scope
Affected Synergy Virtual Connect modules/firmware versions:
HPE Virtual Connect SE 40Gb F8 Module Firmware
1.5.0.1004
1.6.0.1004
HPE Virtual Connect SE 100Gb F32 Module Firmware
2.0.0.1006
Note: For HPE Virtual Connect SE 40Gb F8 Module firmware version 1.6.0.1004, this issue only affects the following configurations:
Highly available or Redundant Logical Interconnects not using Virtual Port Link Aggregation Groups (VPLAGs) for the Server Profile connections used for the IGMP multicast Ethernet traffic.
Non-redundant Logical Interconnects
IGMP multicast traffic may stop working after HPE Virtual Connect SE 40Gb F8 Module firmware is upgraded to firmware version 1.6.0.1004, if parallel firmware activation is used.
IGMP multicast traffic may continue working after HPE Virtual Connect SE 40Gb F8 Module firmware is upgraded to firmware version 1.6.0.1004, if orchestrated firmware activation is used. However, IGMP multicast traffic will stop working if the HPE Virtual Connect SE 40Gb F8 Modules are rebooted after upgrading to firmware version 1.6.0.1004.
IGMP multicast traffic will not work for any new server profile connections created after firmware upgraded to version 1.6.0.1004.
Resolution
This issue will be addressed in an upcoming firmware release for the HPE Virtual Connect SE 40Gb F8 Module for Synergy.
As a workaround, disable IGMP Snooping on the Synergy Virtual Connect Logical Interconnect.
For the HPE Virtual Connect SE 100Gb F32 Module for Synergy, this issue is resolved in firmware version 2.1.0.1003.
