This advisory provides steps that should be taken in the event that the Server Platform Services (SPS) Firmware enters Recovery Mode or becomes corrupted on any HPE ProLiant Gen10, Synergy Gen10, or Apollo Gen10 server featuring Intel Xeon Scalable Performance (SP) Processors.
When the SPS Firmware is corrupted or in recovery mode, an error message similar to the following will be displayed during Power-On Self-Test (POST) as well as in the iLO Integrated Management Log (IML):
Server Platform Services Firmware Error - The SPS Firmware is not operating properly.
Server Platform Services Firmware in Recovery Mode. SPS firmware image is corrupted.
Server Platform Services Authentication Failure - The Server Platform Services (SPS) firmware image failed authentication and may be compromised. -System Halted!
Server Platform Services Authentication Failure - The Server Platform Services (SPS) firmware image could not be authenticated because the image is out of date.
Scope
Any HPE ProLiant Gen10, Synergy Gen10 or Apollo Gen10 server configured with Intel Xeon SP processors where the SPS Firmware is corrupted or in Recovery Mode.
Resolution
If the server is unable to complete boot to re-run the OS Flash component for the SPS Firmware, take the following steps to recover the SPS Firmware:
1. Extract the firmware from the
SPS Firmware OS Component
2.Power the server down.
3.Log into the iLO and navigate to the Firmware and OS Software Tab.
4.Select Update Firmware.
5.Choose the .flash image file and flash the SPS Firmware.
IMPORTANT
: It is not necessary to replace the system board or any other hardware component to recover a failed SPS Firmware image.
