An issue has been identified with HPE StoreOnce Systems running software versions 3.16.x and earlier where data corruption may occur if an upgrade to 3.18.x and later is attempted while the system is reporting as degraded and, for example, is performing:
Parity initialization
Rebuild from a failed HDD
IMPORTANT
: Currently, the upgrade process will abort if the storage system reports any status as "failed;" however, a degraded condition will not trigger the upgrade process to stop.

HPE StoreOnce 3.16.x and 3.18.x Software Upgrade Guide
prior to upgrading from 3.16.x or earlier to 3.18.x or later. Do not proceed with the upgrade if any degraded status is reported.

BB879A: HPE StoreOnce 4700 Backup
BB903A: HPE StoreOnce 4900 Backup
BB915A: HPE StoreOnce 5100 System
BB915B: HPE StoreOnce 5100 HIT System

Resolution
This issue is resolved in HPE StoreOnce software version 3.18.20.
