On an HPE system, if using errata 3.10.0-957.27.2.el7.x86_64 to replace the inbox kernel 3.10.0-957.el7.x86_64 in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6, the inbox Marvell driver is still loaded by the new errata kernel. If booting to an errata kernel, the errata kernel will search for the out-of-box (OOB) drivers in the path /lib/modules/3.10.0-957.27.2.el7.x86_64/extra. However, errata extra is empty; therefore, errata cannot find OOB driver in errata extra path and the errata kernel will load the original inbox Marvell driver directly.
Any HPE system running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 running any Marvell adapter as follows: HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port BASE-T QL41132HLRJ Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port BASE-T QL41132HQRJ OCP3 Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port SFP+ QL41132HQCU OCP3 Adapter Marvell FastLinQ QL41132HLCU Adapter Marvell FastLinQ QL41134HLCU-CK Intelligent Ethernet Adapter Marvell FastLinQ QL41232HQCU OCP3 Adapter Marvell FastLinQ QL41232HQCU-DE network adapter
Perform either of the following to install the Marvell driver. Install the Marvell driver BEFORE the errata kernel installation by performing the following: Install the Marvell driver using the rpm Install the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 errata kernel Type the following commands to add symbolic link cd /lib/modules/3.10.0-957.27.2.el7.x86_64/extra ln -s /lib/modules/3.10.0-957.el7.x86_64/extra/qlgc-fastlinq depmod -a Reboot Install the Marvell driver AFTER the errata kernel installation by performing the following: Install the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 errata kernel Reboot the system (required) Install the Marvell driver using the rpm Type the following commands to add asymbolic link cd /lib/modules/3.10.0-957.27.2.el7.x86_64/extra ln -s /lib/modules/3.10.0-957.el7.x86_64/extra/qlgc-fastlinq depmod -a dracut -f --add-drivers "qed qede" Reboot To remove the OOB driver, type the following commands: rm /lib/modules/3.10.0-957.27.2.el7.x86_64/extra/qlgc-fastlinq Note : there is no "/" in the end of /lib/modules/3.10.0-957.27.2.el7.x86_64/extra/qlgc-fastlinq rpm -e kmod-qlgc-fastlinq depmod -a dracut -f --omit-drivers "qed qede" Reboot.
