Info
On HPE ProLiant, Apollo and Synergy Gen10 server platforms configured in Legacy Boot Mode, an SD card plugged into a USB card reader may not be detected as a bootable device during pre-boot, especially if the USB card reader has multiple slots. For example, this issue has been seen with the Transcend Model TS-RDF9K2 USB 3.1/3.0 Card Reader.
Note: The USB device will be fully supported under the Operating System in either Legacy or UEFI boot mode. The issue may be experienced in pre-boot environments only and when running in Legacy Boot Mode.
Scope
Any HPE ProLiant, Apollo and Synergy Gen10 Servers configured in Legacy Mode in a pre-boot environment.
Resolution
Use UEFI Boot Mode if needing to boot from an SD Card that is plugged into a USB Card Reader with multiple slots.
The following workarounds may allow an SD card to be recognized if the SD Card plugged into the USB Card Reader device is not detected in Legacy mode:
Install an SD card in a different slot
OR
Try a different USB card reader.
