For any HPE Mellanox ConnectX-5 based Ethernet/InfiniBand network adapters listed in Scope section below, the following direct upgrade and downgrade are not supported:
Direct upgrade from firmware version 16.22.4030 to firmware version 16.26.1040 (or later).
Direct downgrade from version from firmware version 16.26.1040 (or later) to firmware version 16.22.4030.
This occurs because starting in firmware release 16.26.1040 (or later), the firmware image size exceeds the allocated space allowed on the on-board flash device. This was caused by a change of the internal layout of the on-board flash device applied with firmware version 16.26.1040 (or later) to accommodate a larger firmware image.
Scope
Any HPE server configured with any of the following HPE Mellanox ConnectX-5 based Ethernet/InfiniBand network adapters:
HPE Apollo InfiniBand EDR 100Gb 2-port 841z Mezzanine Adapter
HPE InfiniBand EDR 100Gb 1-port 841QSFP28 Adapter
HPE InfiniBand EDR/Ethernet 100Gb 2-port 841QSFP28 Adapter
HPE InfiniBand FDR/Ethernet 40/50Gb 2-port 547FLR-QSFP Adapter
Resolution
As a workaround, perform either of the following the two upgrade/downgrade processes:
To upgrade from firmware version 16.22.4030 to firmware version 16.26.1040 (or later), perform the following steps:
Upgrade from firmware version 16.22.4030 to any of the following firmware versions:
16.23.1020
16.24.1000
16.25.1020
After upgrading to any of the above versions, upgrade to firmware version 16.26.1040 (or later).
To downgrade from firmware version 16.26.1040 (or later) to firmware version 16.22.4030, perform the following steps:
Downgrade from firmware version 16.26.1040 (or later) to any of the following firmware version:
16.23.1020
16.24.1000
16.25.1020
After downgrading to any of the previous listed versions, downgrade to firmware version firmware version 16.22.4030.
