Info
HPE has tested SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Service Pack1 (SLES15 SP1) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 4 (SLES12 SP4) on the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 and HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 servers with AMD EPYC 7002 series processors and the following has been observed:
64 Cores AMD EPYC 7002 series processors are unable to boot the XEN Hypervisor under SLES15 SP1 and SLES12 SP4 with greater than 255 vCPUs
Blue Screen is experienced when attempting to install a Windows VM with the XEN Hypervisor on SLES15 SP1 and SLES12 SP4
There are ongoing enablement activities still being submitted to the upstream Linux kernel from both AMD and SUSE in support of the XEN Hypervisor with AMD EPYC 7002 series processors.
Scope
Any HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 or HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 server with AMD EPYC 7002 series processors running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Service Pack 1 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 4.
Resolution
This issue is fixed in SLES15 SP1 and later.
Customers who have the AMD EPYC 7001 series processors are not affected by this Customer Advisory and may continue to run the XEN Hypervisor on the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 and HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 servers.
