After attempting any upgrade with Firmware Version 1.3.X for HPE Virtual Connect (VC) SE 40Gb F8 Module for Synergy, the VC module may be in a non-configurable state. When this issue occurs with the VC module, any upgrades or configurations of a Logical Enclosure (LE) will fail when an attempt is made to apply the changes. The issue may also occur after a hardware configuration change (e.g., adding HPE Synergy 12000 Frames and modules) and subsequent attempts to add new enclosure groups. The non-configurable state of the VC module is caused by the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) credentials on the subordinate module due to a Controller Area Network Management Interface Controller (CANMIC) write failure on the module. This authentication issue will surface in the following scenarios: Firmware activation failure on the affected module(s) If an enclosure grow operation is attempted while a module is affected, the task, Logical Enclosure Update from Group will fail due to inability to configure the module. In a failover scenario, OneView will fail to authenticate via SNMP when the subordinate module becomes the master module. As a result, any attempts to perform configuration modifications will fail and the interconnect web interface in OneView will display the "Configuration Error". Unable to collect complete VC support dumps from the affected module. Some files will be collected via backdoor file copy method, and key files will be missing.
Any HPE Virtual Connect (VC) SE 40Gb F8 Module for Synergy firmware from version 1.3.0 to 1.3.2 when upgraded using any HPE Synergy Custom Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP).
The issue is corrected by upgrading HPE Virtual Connect (VC) SE 40Gb F8 Module for Synergy to firmware version 1.3.3 (or later) available in HPE Synergy Custom Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2018.11.20181205 (or later). Upgrade the firmware by using HPE Synergy Custom Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2018.11.20181205 (or later) release, available from this URL: http://www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy Note : The issue should be corrected after any affected VC module successfully upgrade to firmware version 1.3.3 (or later). However, the upgrade process itself may fail again when upgrading to version 1.3.3 (or later). When the upgrade process does fail for a VC module that has lost its SNMP credentials, use the reset or power-off and power-on work around. After this workaround, upgrade the VC module to firmware version 1.3.3 (or later) again and this issue will not reoccur. Work Around To work around the issue, perform a reset or power-off and power-on for the VC Module that lost its SNMP credentials. After the reboot, OneView will sync back the credential to the VC Module.
