When updating certain Intel S4500 and S4600 Series Solid State Drives (SSDs) to firmware version HPG3(C), some drives may not update. This only affects SSDs that are in a RAID set. SSD drives that are configured for HBA mode will update properly. Note: If an SSD fails to update to HPG3(C), the SSD is completely functional and still retains the original firmware (HPG1 or HPG2). Smart Array controller firmware 1.98 has been released to fix the issue. The Smart Array controller must be updated and running version 1.98 (or later) prior to flashing the SSD drives to HPG3(C) or later. A reboot is required after the update to HPG3(C) before the firmware on the SSD drives becomes active. NOTE: A second issue was found when updating to HPG3(C) firmware. HPG1 firmware flashing will not always work when flashing from HPG1 to HPG3(C). As a workaround, flash from firmware version HPG1 to HPG2 and then to HPG3(C). A reboot is not needed after flashing to HPG2. However, a reboot is required by the Smart Component after flashing to HPG3 for the firmware to become active.
