Document VersionRelease DateDetails204/04/2018Added "312 - HPE Smart Storage Battery 1 Failure - Communication with the battery failed" as a message displayed.102/15/2019Original Document Release.The following messages may be displayed during the Power-On Self-Test (POST) on HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers with HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) firmware version 1.39 (or earlier):329-Power Management Controller Firmware Error - Unable to communicate with the firmware.338-RESTful API Error - Unable to communicate with iLO FW. BIOS configuration resources may not be available.270-iLO FW Communication Issue - Unable to communicate with iLO FW.312 - HPE Smart Storage Battery 1 Failure - Communication with the battery failed.Typically, more than one of the above messages will be displayed; in addition, the iLO 5 option may not be available through the BIOS. This may occur for multiple reasons. There are some hardware configurations that are susceptible to communications timeouts between iLO 5 and the BIOS due to long initialization times after AC power-on to the server. If susceptible, this is most likely to occur if the server System Power Restore Settings are set to Auto-Power-On or Restore Last Power State and after an AC power-cycle to the chassis; otherwise, these issues should not occur.
Any HPE Gen10 server with iLO 5 firmware version 1.39 (or earlier).
To resolve this and avoid the errors listed in the Description section above, update the iLO 5 firmware to version 1.40a (or later).The latest version of the iLO 5 firmware is available as follows:Click the following link:https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/homeEnter a product name (e.g., "iLO 5") in the text search field and wait for a list of products to populate.
