Document Version Release Date Details 2 10/25/2019 Issue resolved in firwmare release 1.5.11.0 for the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module. 1 02/11/2019 Original Document Release. On HPE Synergy Gen9/Gen10 Compute Modules, the SATA drives attached to the modules may fail when an HPE Synergy 12G Connection Module undergoes an HPE OneView Orchestrated firmware update or a soft reset. Though the disks themselves are not faulty, the datapaths to those drives go down and come back up. This interruption causes the associated logical drives to go into a Failed state. With HPE Synergy Gen10 Compute Modules, the SATA volume failure is likely to occur during an Orchestrated firmware update of the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module, with the following HPE OneView procedure/preconditions leading to the fault: Create a SAS Logical Interconnect (LI) Create a server profile, with one or more logical JBODs using SATA drives Start an Orchestrated firmware update of the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module. During the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module reset, drives fail at the HPE Synergy Gen10 Compute Module's Smart Array controller. With HPE Synergy Gen9 Compute Modules, the SATA volume failure is likely to occur during a soft reset of the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module, with the following OneView procedure/preconditions leading to the fault: Create a SAS LI Create a server profile, with one or more logical JBODs using SATA drives Soft reset the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module. During the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module reset, drives fail at the HPE Synergy Gen9 Compute Module's Smart Array controller. When this issue occurs, the HPE OneView Activity Log will indicate "Physical drive status is now failed for drive at location Port x Box y Bay z connected to controller in Slot w" alert". Smart Storage Administrator displays the error message: "HDD at Port x: Box y : Bay z is bad or missing. To correct this problem, check the data and power connections to the physical drive. For more information, generate a diagnostics report":
Any HPE Synergy Gen9/Gen10 Compute Module configured with an HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module with firmware 1.4.6.0 (or earlier).
This issue has been resolved in the firwmare release 1.5.11.0 for the HPE Synergy 12Gb Connection Module, which is part of the HPE Synergy Custom SPP 2019.03.20190401 (or later).
