On any HPE ProLiant server running Microsoft Windows Server 2012, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 or Microsoft Windows Server 2016, and configured with any of the Host Bus Adapters listed in the Scope section below; when the HPE Firmware Flash for Emulex Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for Windows 2012/R2, Windows 2016 x64 version 2018.09.02 is run, the firmware is not updated to 16 Gb HBA/Mezz universal boot 11.4.334.31 as indicated after running the smart component. This condition affects any utility, including when running Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2018.09.0 and Smart Update Manager (SUM). After the firmware component is deployed and the server is restarted, the Operating Systems Utilities, Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP), Smart Update Manager (SUM), HPE Integrated Lights Out (iLO), and any other software interface which displays the Host Bus Adapter firmware will not display the firmware version listed in the smart component (16 Gb HBA/Mezz universal boot 11.4.334.31) and will instead show that whichever firmware was previously loaded on the Host Bus Adapter is still loaded. This occurs because the listed HPE smart component has incorrectly coded its firmware for some Host Bus Adapter PCI-IDs as version 11.4.334.10; and because the component does not actually contain this firmware, the component does not attempt this update and the component will return a successful completion code and will not report any error.

To fix this issue, download and install the HPE Firmware Flash for Emulex Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for Windows 2012/2012 R2/2016 x64 version 2018.09.03, available at the following URL: https://www.hpe.com/global/swpublishing/MTX-e5b2cfe78a79458dbc12c256aa As a workaround to install the HPE Firmware Flash for Emulex Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for Windows 2012/R2, Windows 2016 x64 version 2018.09.02; use any of the following methods to upgrade the affected Host Bus Adapter firmware: Run the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2018.09.0 in Offline mode. Extract the firmware file from the smart component (HPE Firmware Flash for Emulex Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for Windows 2012/R2, Windows 2016 x64 version 2018.09.02), using any .zip utility and update the Host Bus Adapter firmware via the OneCommandManager (OCM) Utility. Extract the firmware file from the smart component (HPE Firmware Flash for Emulex Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for Windows 2012/R2, Windows 2016 x64 version 2018.09.02), using any .zip utility and update the Host Bus Adapter firmware via the HPE UEFI Firmware Update interface.
