Document Version Release Date Details 2 August 14, 2023 Updated the Resolution, citing firmware 1.24, which contains the fix. 1 September 6, 2018 Original Document Release On HPE Gen10 systems, when updating the NVMe Backplane PIC firmware, a false failure is reported by HPE Smart Update Manager (SUM) during server boot. The firmware flash completes as expected. The updated firmware version will be displayed after the first reboot. The firmware version can be viewed using HPE tools, for example, HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) and HPE Array Diagnostic Utility (ADU). The false failure reported by SUM can be safely ignored as the Gen10 NVMe Backplane PIC Firmware actually updates as expected. The Gen10 NVMe Backplane PIC firmware is updated as expected; therefore, the false firmware failed messages can be safely ignored. This issue was resolved in Gen10 NVMe Backplane PIC firmware version 1.24.
