Document Version Release Date Details 2 01/30/2020 Updated Resolution with permanent fix, SUM 8.5. 1 07/10/2018 Original Document Release. On HPE ProLiant Gen9 and HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers running Windows 2012 or Windows 2016 that do not have the HPE Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) or iLO 5 Channel Interface (CHIF) driver installed, and the contents of HPE Smart Update Manager (SUM) are in the directory c:\Program Files, SUM will not run and will display the following message: Unable to communicate to iLO Channel Interface. Refer scouting log file for more information . Below is an example of a message that may occur: When starting Launch_sum.bat from the main folder c:\Program Files\HPSPP, launch_sum.bat will display the following message: Windows cannot file 'c:\Program'. Make sure you type the name correctly , and then try again . This will only occur when the SUM folder is in the directory "c:\Program Files" and the server does not have the iLO 4 or iLO 5 CHIF driver installed.
Any HPE ProLiant Gen9 or HPE ProLiant Gen10 server running Windows 2012 or Windows 2016 configured as follows: SUM is version 8.2 (or earlier) SUM folder is in the directory "c:\Program Files" The iLO 4 or iLO 5 CHIF driver is not installed
Use SUM 8.5 (or later). The latest version of SUM is available as follows: Click the following link: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/home Enter a product name (e.g., "SUM") in the text search field and wait for a list of products to populate. From the products displayed, identify the desired product and click on the Drivers & software icon to the right of the product. From the Drivers & software dropdown menus on the left side of the page: Select the Software Type - (e.g. Software) Select the Software Sub Type For further filtering if needed - Select the specific Operating System from the Operating Environment. Select HPE Smart Update Manager 8.5 (or later). Note : To ensure the latest version will be downloaded, click on the Revision History tab to check if a new version of the firmware/driver is available. Click Download . RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
