Original Document Release.
On an HPE ProLiant WS460c Gen9 graphics server blade, HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Compute Module, or HPE Synergy 480 Gen9 Compute Module when configuring a dual monitor using a twin view configuration on any NVIDIA Quadro graphics card, only single display is enabled. A single monitor can be configured on a server; however, a second monitor will not power on.
Scope
Any HPE ProLiant WS460c Gen9 graphics server blade, HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Compute Module, or HPE Synergy 480 Gen9 Compute Module with a NVIDIA Quadro graphics card.
Resolution
If using the option line with the xorg.conf configuration file similar to the following:
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0, DFP-1"
"DFP-0" and "DFP-1" correspond to the same physical connector. Two displays cannot be used from the same connector at the same time, so the modeset request is rejected.
However, two display devices map to the same physical connector; this is how NVIDIA represents different display protocols that could be used by a single connector: "DFP-0" (aka "DP-0") is the DisplayPort protocol on the connector, and "DFP-1" (aka "DP-1") is the TMDS protocol on the connector.
The "xrandr -verbose" output in the log, displays information similar to the following:
P-0 connected primary 1600x900+0+0 (0x220) normal (normal left inverted
right x axis y axis) 443mm x 249mm panning 3200x900+0+0 ...
SignalFormat: DisplayPort
supported: DisplayPort
ConnectorType: DisplayPort
ConnectorNumber: 7
_ ConnectorLocation: 7
DP-1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ...
SignalFormat: TMDS
supported: TMDS
ConnectorType: DisplayPort
ConnectorNumber: 7
ConnectorLocation: 7
Note
: Different SignalFormat values, but the same ConnectorNumber.
To use the "ConnectedMonitor" option, select two display devices with different ConnectorNumbers; for example:
"Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-1, DFP-3""
