Original Document Release.
Any ProLiant server running VMware ESXi 6.5, 6.7 or 7.0 may populate the VMkernel log with "hpilo" messages. In addition, resetting HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) may cause the following to be displayed:
""Failed to open file 'hpilo-d0ccb0' Requested flags 0x5, world: 68620 [sfcb-smx], (Existing flags 0x5, world: 69340
[sfcb-smx]): Busy""
The message above applies to all apps that use the hpilo driver - not just providers. It is a normal message that will also be seen with HPE Agentless Management Service (AMS), and HPE Smart Update Tool (iSUT) when trying to find an unused hpilo channel. It will be seen in all VMware ESXi versions, e.g, ESXi 6.5, 6.7 and 7.x that run the native versions of the hpilo driver. The message is logged by the operating system in the vmkernel.log when the ilo driver fails to open a command for a channel that is already in use.
In addition to HPE SMX providers changing channels, HPE AMS and HPE iSUT will change channels when the ilo driver command channel attempts to locate an unused channel; messages will be observed in the vmkernel logs.
Note
: The messages can be safely ignored. The messages are normal and the system is operating as designed.
