Info
HPE highly recommends immediately applying the GL220P010 firmware for the HPE MSA 2040, MSA 2042, and MSA 1040 SAN Storage arrays. This firmware version contains a fix that will eliminate two critical issues which may cause a data integrity risk.
There is an issue where, during a failover scenario, the Compact Flash (CF) card may fail to flush to the drives correctly. This issue is rare and is dependent on a unique timing sequence that could occur in specific configurations.
A secondary issue was discovered with virtual replication in a specific configuration where there could be a failure to write during a copy operation. This issue is rare, has only been observed in a test environment, and has not yet been reported in a customer environment.
Scope
This advisory applies to the following HPE MSA storage arrays:
HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage
HPE MSA 2042 SAN Storage
HPE MSA 1040 SAN Storage
Resolution
Applying the GL220P010 firmware will prevent both of these issues from occurring.
If you have an HPE MSA 2040/MSA 2042/MSA 1040 SAN Storage array running any firmware version GL220P009 or earlier, plan a maintenance window to upgrade your array to firmware version GL220P010 as soon as possible. HPE recommends you follow Best Practices and perform all firmware upgrades on a healthy array and, if possible, during a period of low host I/O.
To ensure proper monitoring of your array, enabling either Email or SNMP alerts is suggested.
