Hewlett Packard Enterprise highly recommends immediately upgrading all MSA 1.8TB 12G SAS 10K 2.5 in DP ENT HDDs (model EG1800JFHMH) to firmware version HPD5 or later. Firmware versions HPD5 and later eliminate a rare data integrity issue resulting from unaligned Write and Verify commands sent to a bad sector. In these conditions, writes to disk may fail to complete. IMPORTANT : Neglecting to perform the required action could potentially result in data corruption or loss. This issue is rare and has only been observed in a test environment, and to date has not been reported in a customer environment. By disregarding this notification, however, and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of potentially incurring data integrity related errors attributed to failure to upgrade to firmware version HPD5 or later.
Any HPE MSA G4 or MSA G5 array configured with HPE MSA 1.8TB 12G SAS 10K 2.5 in DP ENT HDD (model EG1800JFHMH), with drive firmware version HPD3 or earlier, and with the following array models, are potentially impacted by this issue: HPE MSA 1040 SAN Storage HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage HPE MSA 2042 SAN Storage HPE MSA 2050 SAN Storage HPE MSA 2052 SAN Storage
To prevent this issue, upgrade all EG1800JFHMH drive models to HDD firmware version HPD5 (or later). Identify the drive models. To determine which drive models are configured in the MSA Storage array and their corresponding firmware versions, use any of the following utilities: -MSA System Management Utility (SMU) -MSA Command Line Interface (CLI) -HPE Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) For Example: In SMU v3: To view information about disks and firmware versions: In the Home topic , select System > Update Firmware > Update Disk Drives. In SMU v2 : To view information about disks and firmware versions: In the Configuration View panel, select Tools > Update Firmware.
