Data Domain Operating System (DDOS) 6.0 introduces a new user role of 'limited-admin'. Users assigned to this role can configure/administer the DDR but are not able to perform operations which can cause potential data loss/issues with data integrity. For example, they are not able to: Destroy the DDFS file system Delete mtrees Change registry settings Enter 'se' or 'BASH' mode Such users are, however, able to create new mtrees but this may lead to the following errors being displayed during mtree creation: testuser@DDVE60_JF# mtree create /data/col1/testuser MTree "/data/col1/testuser" created successfully. **** Failed to set randomio to global value **** Failed to set anchoring algorithm to global value Quota soft limit: none, hard limit: none In addition, errors may be displayed when attempting to list mtree permissions: testuser@DDVE60_JF# mtree option show mtree /data/col1/testuser User not authorized to execute this command: Possible reasons are user doesn't have enough permissions, user permissions have changed or session has expired. Please relogin! Name Option Value ------------------- ------------------------- ------------- /data/col1/testuser app-optimized-compression global (none) ------------------- ------------------------- ------------- Note: These errors are cosmetic only and do not affect the operation of the system or configuration of the corresponding mtrees: Mtrees are created successfully despite the errors shown Mtree options are set to correct default values
This issue is caused by a defect in DDOS meaning that a user with the limited-admin role does not have permissions to set/query mtree anchoring/randomio options.
Despite the errors displayed mtrees created by users with the limited-admin role function entirely as normal. As such, errors posted during mtree creation can be ignored. If mtree options must be listed/set, however, a user with admin role should be used such that all options can be displayed/set as expected. Data Domain engineering is currently working to address this issue such that users with the limited-admin role have permissions to query/set all relevant mtree options (hence avoiding these errors).
