1.What is DDMC?DDMC or Data Domain Management Center (DD Management Center) is a scalable, virtual appliance-based solution for centralized management of multiple Data Domain systems and virtual data protection appliances (DD VE instances). It provides current and historical data for all of your managed Data Domain systems. It can configure and monitor secure multitenant DD Boost backup and replication storage on multiple Data Domain systems. 2. What are the differences between DD Management Center and DD System Manager?DDMC can manage up to 150 Data Domain systems, while DD System Manager is a single-system management tool. DD Management Center includes the ability to manage Data Domain systems with High Availability (HA), Data Domain Cloud Tier (DD Cloud Tier), and DD Virtual Edition (DD VE) instances.DDMC can perform tasks on groups of Data Domain systems simultaneously.DDMC aggregates storage and performance data, as well as compares operational information, for all managed Data Domain systems. DD System Manager does not aggregate storage and/or performance data from multiple systems, nor can you compare operational information across systems. DDMC does not directly manage storage. DD System Manager directly manages storage (using VTL, CIFS, NFS, Data Domain Boost, and so on). 3. What are the DD requirements? Number of managed systems: 1-150Virtual CPU: 4vCPUMemory: 8 GBVM disk SizeBase install + database (GB): 40 + 200 4. How to Obtain Your Data Domain Management Center License: Information about licensing is found in Data Domain e-licensing - ELMS FAQ4.1 Initial installation by .ovf file: Downloading and installing DDMC: Customer can download .ovf from online support center and install. Post, which DDMC can be deployed on VMware. Make sure, a fully qualified hostname is used. 5. Powering on DDMC: Once the installation is completed successfully, you may power on the DDMC and log into the system. On GUI, right-click on instance and select Power On. While powering, users may face few challenges as well issues. 6. Logging to DDMC: DDMC is accessed by using the browsers that has network access to the hosting VM server. The supported browsers for use with DD Management Center:On Microsoft Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 and Edge; Mozilla Firefox 30 and higher; Google ChromeOn Apple OS X Mozilla Firefox 30 and higher; Google ChromeUsers may come across few browser issues as defined inline:Issue: DDMC GUI shows a blank page after upgrade to 2.0. The resolution is a simple compatibility check on the browser settings.Steps addressed (Break Fix): Issue: For DDOS 5.6 and 5.7, the GUI on DD System manager (DDSM) shows an error message: (TypeError): a is undefinedSteps addressed (Break Fix): Issue: SHA1 SSL certificates: Post 1st January, 2017 Dell EMC has made an agreement and confirmed that they will no longer support use of SHA1 SSL certificates. Steps addressed (Break Fix): 000040356 7. DDMC user roles and issues: DDMC uses role based access control to keep a check on how data is manipulated as well displayed with in DDMC and DDSM. Issue: How to delete a user or users who no longer needed? It is to be noted a user should have to login at least once in order to be deleted. Steps addressed (How to): 479178 Issue: EVT-MANAGEMENT-00003: The DD Management Center has requested historical data from the managed system and that data has not been received. This issue is an outcome of few Steps addressed (Break fix): https://support.emc.com/kb/495307 8. DDMC dash boards, widgets, tabs: Some users comes with queries to get assistance. Few examples: Create reports, customize dashboards and Thresholds etc., then those comes under the non-break/fix issues and customer has to contact their accounts team. 9. Adding (registering) Data Domain systems to DD Management Center: Before one manages a DD in DDMC, user needs to add (register) it to the inventory. A maximum of 150 DD systems can be added to a DDMC. Few common causes of errors while adding systems: DD systems should be online.Designated port number is correct.Check for correct password as well no network issues.DDOS is compatible to the current DDMC version (one may check the DDMC release notes). Issue: DD Management Center is not able to retrieve current data from the managed system. This issue is a result of out of date certificate. Steps addressed (How to): https://support.emc.com/kb/476609 Issue: Troubleshooting Steps to add managed systems to DD Management Center. Customers strangely are Unable to add Data Domains to DDMC Steps addressed (Break fix): https://support.emc.com/kb/487552 10. Data Retention policy for DDMC; capacity: To reduce the amount of space needed to store historical data, DD Management Center periodically discards older samples. The number of samples retained depends on the nature of the data and whether the sample is hourly, daily, or weekly data. Few issues that comes because of the same. Issue: Increasing DDMC database partition. Steps to be performed only by internal technical engineers. 11. Managing network settings: The Settings page presents status and configuration information for network interfaces, DNS, hosts, SNMP, and routes.Issue: Issues while adding a route in DDMC 2.0. It is observed that few users are unable to add the status route and ending up with an error Route command system error.Steps addressed (Break fix): 493821
