ConnectHome on the VNX File/Unified controlstation is set up to use email transport in "/nas/sbin/nas_connecthome." The ConnectHome is failing, and also the test using the following does not succeed./nas/sbin/nas_connecthome -test -email_1 The logfile /nas/log/connectemc/ConnectEMCEmail.log is showing the following error: Unacceptable response to MAIL FROM: 501 5.1.7 Bad sender address syntax #cat /opt/connectemc/logs/EMAIL-cURL.log Connected: xxx-xxx.xxx.com 25 220 ESMTP Mailsystem Ready EHLO localhost 250-xxx.xxx.xx 250-PIPELINING 250-SIZE 104857600 250-ETRN 250-STARTTLS 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-8BITMIME 250 DSN HELO localhost 250 xxx.xxx.xxx.xx MAIL FROM:xxxx.xxxxx@xxx.xxx.xx 501 5.1.7 Bad sender address syntax Unacceptable response to MAIL FROM: 501 5.1.7 Bad sender address syntax
This issue is seen with POSTFIX SMTP servers when the POSTFIX config parameter "strict_rfc821_envelopes" is set to yes.In that case the mail client is expected to send the email addresses enclosed with angle brackets <>. Refer to https://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html: strict_rfc821_envelopes (default: no) Require that addresses received in SMTP MAIL FROM and RCPT TO commands are enclosed with <>, and that those addresses do not contain RFC 822 style comments or phrases. This stops mail from poorly written software. By default, the Postfix SMTP server accepts RFC 822 syntax in MAIL FROM and RCPT TO addresses. Currently the VNX does not support the angle brackets for email addresses.
Verify all data in nas_connecthome is correct, and the used email addresses are valid and accepted by the email system. This can be managed as well in Unisphere Manager under System -> Service Tasks -> Manage Connect Home for File. [root@VNX-CS0]# /nas/sbin/nas_connecthome -info ConnectHome Configuration: Encryption Enabled = yes Dial In : Enabled = yes Modem phone number = Site ID = Serial number = CKM00123456789 ESRS : Priority = Disabled Email : Priority = 1 Sender Address = xxxx.xxxx@xxx.xxx.xx Recipient Address(es) = xxxx.xxxx@xxx.xxx.xx Subject = Dialhome from VNX Primary : Email Server = xxx-xxx.xxx.com Email IP Protocol = IPv4 Secondary : Email Server = Email IP Protocol = IPv4 Check if the SMTP server is expecting the email addresses enclosed with angle brackets <> (POSTFIX does when configured, see under cause statement) If that is the case, there is a workaround available. Open a Service request with Unified support to get the workaround applied. Another option would be to set the POSTFIX config parameter "strict_rfc821_envelopes" to "no."
