This is a rare issue that occurs only under a specific user scenario. After restarting the system, if the user holds a finger on the touchpad until the operating system finishes booting. The mouse cursor does not appear and the touchpad is listed with a yellow bang (error indicator) in Device Manager. Affected Platforms: XPS 14 DA14260 XPS 16 DA16260
During system boot, pressure on the touchpad causes it to send input data simultaneously the system is initializing the device. This timing conflict prevents the touchpad from being properly recognized by Windows, resulting in the yellow bang error in Device Manager.
Updating the touchpad firmware to the version listed below resolves the issue. Follow the steps below to download and install the update. Platform Firmware Version XPS 14 DA14260 1739.53277.275, A00 XPS 16 DA16260 1739.53274.277, A00 Step 1. Confirm that the touchpad is the affected model by checking the Hardware ID (VID must be VEN_06CB): Open Device Manager . Expand Human Interface Devices . Double-click HID-compliant touchpad . Select the Details tab . From the Property dropdown, select Hardware Ids . 6. Confirm that the value contains VID_06CB . Step 2: Download the Dell Touchpad Firmware Update Utility that matches the system model from the Dell Support site. Refer to the Driver Update Guide for download and installation guidance. Note: Use the utility that matches the system model. If the wrong utility is used, the tool displays the error "Something went wrong and we could not complete the installation. Select Try again to start over" and blocks the update. If the touchpad is not the affected model, the utility bypasses the update and reports success. Step 3: Run the Firmware Update. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to launch the Dell Update Package. Select Install software updates on this PC (recommended) and click Continue . Allow the firmware flash to complete. A progress window appears during the flash, followed by a Firmware update successfully confirmation. When prompted that the refresh succeeded, click OK and reboot the system to complete the update. After the system reboots, the Dell Update Package should display a Success: Your software is now updated message .
