Manually initiating a check-in from the DDMA UI fails when performed by a user that is logged in with a non-local administrator account. This happens when clicking Initiate Device Check-in. The check-in process is not complete. Alerts/Messages reports error 3004, "Unauthorized user attempted to access sensitive information via - Checkin." Connected peripherals, such as docking stations, do not appear or update in Dell Device Management Console (DDMC). Affected Software: Dell Device Management Console
Dell Device Management Console requires: Dell Display and Peripheral Manager (DDPM) must be installed firstDell Device Management Agent (DDMA) must be installed using a Local Administrator account When logging in with a non-local administrator account (using Microsoft Entra ID or a domain user), attempts to perform a manually initiated device check-in are blocked. Dell Device Management Agent blocks the action due to authorization restrictions and returns error code 3004. This is the expected behavior in current releases.
Long-term solution: The engineering department is working on a fix to be released in Dell Device Management Agent version 26.05.x.x and later. The updated Dell Device Management Agent is posted to the Dell Device Management Console under Deployment and then Available software once it is made available. Dell Device Management Agent version 26.05.x.x is expected to be released on May 31, 2026. Note: In the upcoming DDMA release, the Initiate Device Check‑in button is disabled if the DDMA UI is launched with non‑local administrator privileges. Workarounds There are two workaround methods for this error. Method 1: Use a Local Administrator Account (Recommended) Log in to the computer using a local administrator account.Open Dell Device Management Agent from the system tray. From the Home tab, check if all required peripherals are listed.Click Initiate Device Check-in. Check-in completes successfully and connected peripherals are reported to Dell Device Management Console. No alert is received in the DDMA Alert/Message tab. Method 2: Allow Automatic Peripheral Check‑in The Dell Device Management Agent automatically performs a peripheral inventory check-in every 48 hours. No manual intervention is required. However, depending on the check-in cycle, it may take additional time for updates to appear. Note: Peripherals are reported only if they are connected during the check-in window. If a dock or peripheral is not connected at the time of check-in, it will not be displayed in the Dell Device Management Console.
