com.emc.dpsg.ecdm.commonresourceservice.common.CopyServiceExceptionMapper.lambda$bootstrapMappings$13(CopyServiceExceptionMapper.java:207) Also, within the Vault PowerProtect Data Manager host, a Storage Unit replacement error is witnessed: The PowerProtect Data Manager System jobs show the following message and inability to complete the Storage Unit replacement: This issue may also manifest itself in another way. Some instances may allow the Storage Unit to be visible within the Vault PowerProtect Data Manager host in the Vault. Upon inspecting the copies available to restore, rather than seeing the full list of choices, a subset or limited number may only be available. Attempting to recover one of these copies will fail. This is due to the Storage Unit replacement operation not fully completing. The metadata was never fully updated to reflect the presence of the Vault Data Domain. Subsequent restore operations continue to mistakenly reference the original production DD instead of the Vault Data Domain. This is witnessed in the ddboost.log where DDBoost components repeatedly attempt to resolve the Production Data Domain hostnames: From the Vault PowerProtect Data Manager /var/log/brs/replmgr/ddboost.log , the following messages are seen: XXXX-XX-XXT14:30:52.201Z INFO [] [pool-31-thread-1] [][][][][] [ddboost.log(41)] - severity:3 msg:[64626:139729879037632] ddp_connect_with_config() Connection request for server: Prod_DD_Name, username: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, storage-unit: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXX-XX-XXT14:30:52.201Z INFO [] [pool-31-thread-1] [][][][][] [ddboost.log(41)] - severity:3 msg:[64626:139729879037632] ddcl_get_host_ipv6_ipv4_addr() Invoke getaddrbyname started for host Prod_DD_Name
The Storage Unit replacement operation can fail in environments containing a large number of backups, typically around 7,000 Protection Copy Sets, although the exact threshold may vary. This failure is caused by a scalability limitation encountered while updating backup copies metadata during the Storage Unit replacement process. As a result, the PowerProtect Data Manager Recovery job in Cyber Recovery completes successfully; however, the restored PowerProtect Data Manager instance in the Vault is unable to display the Vault Data Domain or its associated Storage Units. Consequently, backup copies are inaccessible and restore operations cannot be performed.
Resolution: This issue is addressed in PowerProtect Data Manager 20.2. Workaround: If an upgrade is not currently feasible, a potential workaround may be available. Contact Dell Technologies Support or your service representative and reference this article.
