Affected Platforms: Dell Pro Laptops Dell Pro Plus Laptops Dell Pro Max Laptops Customers may see the following BIOS message during POST: Alert! Dust Filter is due to be replaced or cleaned. BIOS Event Log: To keep your PC running at its best, it’s time to clean your dust filter. We’ll remind you regularly when it’s needed. You can update this reminder’s frequency under ‘Dust Filter Maintenance’ in your BIOS.
This behavior is expected because the Dust Filter Maintenance function is a BIOS reminder feature and not a hardware detection feature. Comparable Dell dust-filter documentation shows that the BIOS can generate a preboot reminder based on a configured interval and that alerts are shown during reboot and startup rather than during normal operating system use. The BIOS setting supports fixed interval choices such as 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 days.
The message is a maintenance reminder only and does not indicate a hardware failure. The user can clean the computer as part of routine preventive maintenance. Depending on usage habits and environment, the user may: Keep the BIOS reminder enabled Disable the BIOS reminder Clean and replace the dust filter if one is installed Note: If the setting remains enabled, the message will appear again after the configured interval. To adjust Dust Filter Maintenance: Restart the computer and press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup menu. In the BIOS Setup menu, go to Integrated Devices > Dust Filter Maintenance and select from any of the following intervals: 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, or 180 days Note: If the user changes from Disabled to a different setting like 90 days, the starting date is set from the day the setting got changed. If the user changes the setting say from 15 to 90 days, the start date remains unchanged.
