An external monitor connected to a Dell Pro Precision laptop over Thunderbolt port may have a black screen. The issue occurs after closing the laptop’s lid or pressing the Fn + F8 keys. Affected Platforms: Dell Pro Precision 7 14 PW714260 Dell Pro Precision 7 16 PW716260
This is due to the timing mismatch. The display configuration change is detected and the display switch sequence is initiated, but the external monitor is not properly enabled.
Note: Before starting the update, perform the following: Back up all personal data. For more information, refer to Back Up and Recovery . Connect the AC adapter. Updating the BIOS to version 1.1.0 or later on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the BIOS, refer to the BIOS Update Guide .
