CIFS share access fails after changing a system password. Attempts to reconnect result in authentication errors. Creating test shares or checking the CIFS configuration does not resolve the issue.
Windows retains old CIFS session credentials in its cache. After the password changes, these cached sessions prevent successful authentication with the updated credentials.
Open Command Prompt Search for CMD in the Start menu and open it. Check Existing CIFS Connections Run: net use Delete All Cached Connections Run: net use * /delete Confirm by typing Y when prompted. Reconnect to CIFS Share Use the updated credentials to reconnect. Access should now succeed. Example:
