The required retention policy defines how far in time the copied image can be rolled back and it sets the minimum snapshots to keep. Figure 1: Retention policy values on Consistency Group In the example above, RecoverPoint keeps the snapshots for seven days. When doing a TEST A COPY or FAILOVER, snapshots older than seven days are still present in the journal.
By design, RecoverPoint retention sets the minimum snapshots to keep. If there is an extra Journal size available, it uses the entire Journal to keep as many snapshots as possible.
Workaround: The behavior of the product is by design and no workaround is required. If there is no requirement to keep the extra snapshot, a smaller journal should be considered. Resolution: RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is working as designed, no current change is needed. There is a Request for Enhancement for this feature.
