The modification of a Protection Policy generates: The asset rule with name value of 'XXX' already exists. Change name to a unique value.. The Protection Rules associated with a deleted policy cannot be deleted. This behavior causes issue with updating policies with tree (native) view rules with the same name. This is a known issue in versions prior to PowerProtect 19.13.0-20, when deleting Protection Policies and creating a new Protection Policy with the same name. An invalid component token is created in the Protection Rule Listener for the deletion event. The invalid token allows the deletion of the Protection Policy, but does not complete the deletion process of the associated Protection Rule. If a Protection Policy is then created with the same name, there is a conflicting Protection Rule in the Elastic Database (ESDB).
The issue has been resolved in the PowerProtect release 19.13.0-20. Install the latest PowerProtect Data Manager release to resolve the symptom. The newest available releases are available on the PowerProtect Data Manager Drivers & Downloads page. NOTE: Upgrading to later releases does not fix the issue but prevent orphan Protection Rules from occurring. Workaround Create the Protection Policy with a unique name. If a workaround is required to clear out the Protection Rule names from the ESDB, contact Dell Support for assistance.
