VM Restore is being performed inside Cyber Recovery vaulted vCenter. The vaulted Data Domain device's 'device access information' field is created using the IP address or hostname/fqdn of the vault Data Domain. Any VM restore attempts to 'resurrect' the save set and fails with the following message in the recovery output: 155752:nsrvproxy_recover: Unable to find a usable device for recovery of saveset SSID : Unable to retrieve Data Domain information . An attempt will be made to perform automatic clone resurrection. 165713:nsrvproxy_recover: Attempting to automatically resurrect clone SSID with 7 days retention to DD volume in pool POOL_NAME ... 153335:nsrvproxy_recover: Virtual machine recovery failed: Unable to resurrect clone SSID to a Data Domain volume in a staging pool: nsrclone finished with code 1.
There is no "Data Domain System" entry corresponding to the vault Data Domain IP/hostname/FQDN under Devices > Data Domain Systems. One or more Data Domains from the production environment are listed. The NetWorker server has hosts file entries to alias the vault Data Domain IP address to the name of the Data Domain from the production environment. The recover is not able to identify which DD the save set resides on because there is no "Data Domain System" entry for it. Creating a new device on the vault Data Domain and labeling a new volume should add the 'Data Domain System' entry. Using hosts file entries matching the vault Data Domain IP to an existing entry prevents adding a new system. See: NVP vProxy: Cyber-Recovery Vaulted vCenter is failing to Recover VM "Unable to find a usable device for recovery of saveset"
1. Log in to the NetWorker Management Console (NMC). 2. Go to Devices->Devices. 3. Unmount the device the VM save set resides on. 3. Open the device properties. Update the 'Device Access information' to map to the production Data Domain hostname. For example change: 10.1.1.5:/cr-NW_data/VM To: myDDhostname :/cr-NW_data/VM NOTE: The hostname provided must correspond to a Data Domain System entry already available under Devices -> Data Domain Systems . The hostname of the Data Domain must be listed in the NetWorker server's hosts file as an alias of the vault Data Domain IP. 4. Mount the device again. 5. Perform the restore.
