CDR Restore instance fails to deploy in Azure, due to failing to download files from Cloud Storage account (blob storage) As per requirements documented in the Cloud Disaster Administration Guide - Azure Network Settings: Impacted Configuration & Settings: Cloud storage account and CDRS RestoreService-ResourceGroup. Impact on CDR: Disaster Recovery /Rapid Recovery/Retention will not work.
The registered cloud storage account's networking rules do not allow CDRS RestoreService-ResourceGroup to access it. As the CDRS RestoreService-ResourceGroup group uses the cloud storage account to download required script files during disaster recovery workflows.. Symptoms found in the logs: In CDRS logs we will have below log trace. ERROR [2022-04-22 19:16:33,513] [taskExecutor-15] [RestoreServiceDeployAz:logFailedDeploymentOperationsAndGetErrorMessage:161]: resource id: /subscriptions/dxxxxxxx-1d40-4d8b-baa6-xxxxxxxxxxx/resourceGroups/CDRS-eastus-RestoreService-ResourceGroup/providers/Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachines/CDRS-eastusr12345678-Instance/extensions/configvm resource name: CDRS-eastusr12345678-Instance/configvm resource type: Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachines/extensions status code: Conflict error message: {"status":"Failed","error":{"code":"VMExtensionProvisioningError","message":"VM has reported a failure when processing extension \u0027configvm\u0027. Affected versions: All CDR versions. Resolution Fixed at: NA. Workaround: A registered cloud storage account should allow the CDRS RestoreService-ResourceGroup group to access it. We need to add the virtual network (CDRS-Vnet) of CDRS RestoreService-ResourceGroup to the CDRS Storage Account in networking under the virtual Network. 1) Log in to the Azure portal with the account used for CDRS 2) Locate the CDRS RestoreService-ResourceGroup group and the Vnet of it (generally it is like CDRS-prefix-Vnet) For example: CDRS-eastus-RestoreService-ResourceGroup 3) Go to the storage account / blob storage which is registered with CDRS at the time of CDRS deployment and select the networking field and add the (CDRS-Vnet) of CDRS RestoreService-ResourceGroup into the virtual Network.
