Symptoms

Dell Repository Manager (DRM) 3.4.0 fails to launch showing the error "DRM Service was not started" when installed on a non-Dell server or workstation such as from Hewlett-Packard or Lenovo. The following error is also seen in the DRM debug logs: SEVE com.dell.drm.utilities.LockboxUtility createLockbox Lockbox Exception occurred SEVE com.dell.drm.service.DRMService start Terminating Service due to exception : Buffer is empty.

Cause

DRM 3.4.0 was improperly detecting the machine model.

Resolution

Upgrade to DRM 3.4.7 which resolves this issue.Installing DRM on a virtual machine regardless of underlying vendor hardware is supported and remains functional.
