Downstream multicast traffic from a 9800 does not reach its APs. Embedded packet capture from the 9800 shows that it is sending the CAPWAP-encapsulated multicasts with a source IPv4 address of 0.0.0.0. MOM however is up.
This bug affects the following 9800 platforms: C9800-80, C9800-40, CW9800-M, CW9800-H1/H2, 9800-L and 9800-CL. It affects centrally switched traffic, not FlexConnect local switching. It affects the following IOS-XE releases: 17.9.7*, 17.9.8 17.12.5*, 17.12.6* 17.15.2b, 17.15.3*, 17.15.4-17.15.4c One trigger for this bug is if the wireless management interface is changed, or if the IP address is changed on the wireless management interface. However, many other events may trigger this bug.
Change the CAPWAP multicast group address using the command. wireless multicast x.x.x.x under the configuration mode. This will fix the problem temporarily, but will not keep the problem from recurring. So, monitor the source IP address used for MCAST in the output of the show platform hardware chassis active qfp feature wireless capwap cpp-client summary command, and if it ever goes to 0.0.0.0, reconfigure the wireless multicast address to be something else.
This commit CSCwq81750 does not completely fix this problem; also see CSCws18413 for the complete fix. The complete fix (both CSCwq81750 and CSCws18413) will be found in the following releases: 17.12.7, 17.15.4d, 17.15.5, 17.18.2. Additionally, SMUs are available for some earlier releases.
